Exhibition Overview

This exhibition is a collaborative project by Rita Ackermann, Lizzi Bougatsos, and Chef Odo. Three practitioners who have each forged avant-garde practices across distinct disciplines, painting, sculpture, and food, come together as equals in this gallery space, forming a place where the visual, the material, and taste converge.

Lizzi Bougatsos's ceramics and sculptural works bring a powerful physical presence to the space through material and form, entering into deep dialogue with the layered rhythms and the deconstruction and reconstruction of imagery found in Rita Ackermann's paintings. Chef Odo's cuisine, while firmly rooted in the traditions of Japanese food culture, reinterprets its structures and concepts to emerge as an expression that carries innovation within it — resonating throughout the space alongside these practices.

Through the new relationships that arise where three avant-garde practices intersect, this exhibition opens up possibilities for what cultural experience can be in the contemporary moment.

Exhibition Overview and Strategic Positioning

This project is a three-way collaboration between Rita Ackermann, a painter of established international standing; Lizzi Bougatsos, an artist who embodies the spirit of New York's underground culture; and Chef Odo, who continues to find innovation within tradition through the promotion and transmission of Japanese food culture.

Rita Ackermann emerged in the early 1990s in New York, working in close proximity to a cultural scene where music and visual art intersected. Lizzi Bougatsos subsequently established her own distinctive voice through a practice that moves fluidly between music and visual art within the underground scene. Though coming from different

vantage points, both are figures connected to the lineage of experimental expression that has defined and followed their era.

By bringing together three practitioners who have each developed avant-garde practices across painting, sculpture, and food, this exhibition creates a multifaceted experience in which the visual, the material, and taste overlap and interact within the gallery space.

This exhibition is not merely a show — it is a strategic cultural project that further deepens the gallery's practice at the intersection of food and art.

About the Artists

Rita Ackermann

Born in Hungary in 1968, Rita Ackermann is currently based in New York. After moving to the United States in the late 1980s, she came to prominence within the subculture and art scene of the East Village in the early 1990s.

Known initially for figurative works featuring images of girls and anime-inflected motifs, she has in recent years shifted toward large-scale paintings that fuse drawing and abstraction. Her work continues to deconstruct and reconstruct imagery around the axes of "generation and dissolution" and "the intersection of corporeality and abstraction."

Represented by Hauser & Wirth, her work is held in the collections of major institutions including MoMA, the Whitney Museum, and MOCA LA, and she has an auction track record at Phillips, Sotheby's, and Christie's. She also has a history of exhibiting at three-Michelin-starred Eleven Madison Park, demonstrating a strong affinity with the context of art within restaurant spaces.

Lizzi Bougatsos

Born in 1974 in Queens, New York, Lizzi Bougatsos is an artist, musician, and writer. Best known as the central figure of experimental art-pop band Gang Gang Dance, she is one of the defining voices of the New York underground scene since the 2000s, acclaimed for a musical sensibility that spans electronic, psychedelic, and global music.

In the visual arts, she has exhibited at Hauser & Wirth, the Whitney Museum, MoMA, and Astrup Fearnley Museet, and has in recent years established a distinctive practice centered on ceramics and sculpture that combines everyday elements with symbolic imagery. Through collaborations with Kim Gordon, Lonnie Holley, Rita Ackermann, and others, she has secured a singular position in New York's cultural landscape as a figure who moves fluidly between music and visual art.
