Exhibition Overview

This exhibition seeks to bring into resonance the laws of nature and human intellect within the field of “emptiness” (Ku), presenting the sustained flow of pure energy beyond conventional notions of past, present, and future.

By placing painting and sculpture—distinct yet interrelated realms of form—within a shared spatial context, traces of movement and structures of equilibrium intersect. The space itself emerges as a unified structural presence.

Statement

Within the ceaseless circulation of energy, artistic creation becomes an act of rendering visible a cross-section of the present moment.

Traditional Japanese materials such as washi paper, ink, and silver leaf embody historical time while functioning as mediums that materialize invisible forces.

Hitoshi Tomimori’s paintings inscribe the flow of energy through bodily gesture, fixing movement within layered surfaces.

Hitofumi Tomimori’s forged metal sculptures articulate spatial order through mass and structural balance.

Together, their practices form a field in which cosmic rhythm and human construction interact. Through this interplay, the fundamental conditions of existence are reconsidered.

Rather than presenting works as isolated objects, The Symphonia 2026 invites viewers to experience the entire space as a dynamic relationship between structure and movement.

Hitoshi Tomimori and Rice Cultivation

Hitoshi Tomimori’s artistic philosophy is deeply informed by rice cultivation rooted in the Japanese landscape.

The act of cultivating the land embodies a lived experience of natural and temporal cycles. Seasonal rhythms, the movement of water, and dialogue with soil provide a corporeal understanding of cosmic rhythm.

This embodied awareness of circulation and continuity became the conceptual foundation of his artistic practice.

About the Artists

Hitoshi Tomimori (b. 1970, Kagawa, Japan) is a painter and contemporary artist whose practice centers on painting as a physical act and an embodiment of energy in motion. Since establishing his studio in Tokyo in 2000, he has pursued painting as a process of transformation, using layered color, gesture, and the trace of bodily movement to give form to the dynamic flow of existence.

He has held multiple solo exhibitions at Honenin Temple in Kyoto, including THE SYMPHONIA 2025, THE INITIAL REVOLUTION (2023), and Bone and Space: Shadow and Form (2021). Internationally, he has participated in major art fairs in Milan and Lugano, and exhibited in New York at The Nippon Gallery.

HitofumiTomimori (b. 1970, Kagawa, Japan) is a sculptor working primarily with hand-forged metal. His practice investigates gravity, balance, and the conditions of existence within space. Through recurring spherical forms and carefully constructed structures, his work emphasizes physical weight, tension, and spatial presence.

He has presented sustained solo exhibitions at Honenin Temple in Kyoto, including THE UNIVERSE (2025, 2023), Formless (2022), and the gravity series (2020–2021). He has also exhibited extensively in the Kokuten Exhibition in Tokyo and received the Governor of Kagawa Prefecture Prize in 2023 and 2025.
